Cementation is currently developing an innovative alternative approach to conventional hoisting or trucking rock from underground mines. The innovation, termed Injection Hoisting, is a continuous process, utilizing a dense media in combination with a unique injection system to introduce ore or waste rock into a pipe loop to move the rock slurry to surface. In 2016, Cementation advanced the design and built a proof of concept model, and has applied for patents in key underground mining countries. In 2017 the innovation was a finalist at the #DisruptMining competition and was the major winner, sharing the grand prize and winning the People’s Choice award. Cementation is advancing the design and plans to build a pilot demonstration installation in collaboration with a number of mining companies.
